d16 block is great for low end torque

z6 head is great for flow

i have a d16y8 high compression thanks to the adddition of zc pistons ... my car <3's torque

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

+1 for Jeff with the boost option

David has this set up (though cannot remember the compression) and is running 12.9's now at the track

for na low end torque the d16 block with y8 head is it imho

Hello. I have a d16a6 that was out into my 96 dx. There's plenty of room but I was just curious what I need to do to prep my motor for this build. I really like your set up and it's something Id really like to follow. I'm not very mechanically inclined but I would really like to learn if you could help me with what you can. I'm also not sure where to look for these parts at?!

Block: D16A6
Head: D16Z6
Tranny: S20 (LSD)........................... probably from Honda or ebay/i-net
Rods: Eagle H-Beams ......................Company named Eagle?
Pistons: CP 10:5:1 ...........................Search for CP on I-net
Bearings: ACL .................................search for ACL on i-net
Valves: Omni Power ......................... search for company Omni power or really a valve is a valve
Springs: Crower Stg2........................ Crower is a cam company....call tech line on phone and tell 'em
what the crower parts are for.
Retainers: Crower Stg2 don't bother them if you don't have money to buy with. Respect their time.
Cam: Crower Stg2
Intake Manifold: Edelbrock Performer X .............................Edelbrock is a company
Header: AN-R Merge Collector......................................... .. any set of headers probably are better than stock cast exhaust.

If this is a first time engine job for you, it's better to send it out
LHT in St Pete is who I trust. John knows his stuff.

Don't take anything apart until you have the parts or you won't ever get it back together, and it will be scrapped
for almost nothing.

Have a place to work or the city will tow it and scrap it.

Does what you have ...is it driveable while you collect the parts|?

awesome build! This is my first full on engine build and I'm doing as much of it as I can on my own .... trying anyway lol the car is drivable all I've done to it is air intake headers and exhaust it could use a new rack and pinion but other than that it's ready for some attention does the block itself need any modifications for this like does it need to be shaved down or bored or anything? I do fortunately have a good Little garage to work on it at, not a lot of tools but hopefully enough to get the job done. Where is st. Peter at? And thanks for taking the time to help me out too. I appreciate it!

If you have good compression, the block may not need anything which I can think of. Pull the engine out and clean it meticulously at the spray car wash. Ace hardware rents power washers for about $30/day.

Do you have a clicker torque wrench and a ring compressor? Compression tester?
Timing degree wheel? If you don't have the right tools, drive it stock and spend the money you saved to pickup women.

If I were boring out a block, buy a gasket set first, buy the pistons first and have it bored to match them to the largest bore acceptable. To keep the engine running smooth, balance the crank, flywheel and rods so it doesn't vibrate apart.

Putting in new main and rod bearings is a good idea instead of stressing unknown worn bearings with more horsepower. Turn it upside down, pull the oil pan to replace the bearings all at once. Put on a new timing belt so the old belt with unknown miles doesn't break and cram your new pistons into the valves.

United Speed World has done a good job machine wise for a friend who drag races if LHT
https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/lht-performance/
wants too much. .Everything should be meticulously clean. Price the parts/labor before you start or you will run out of money and the car gets sold for scrap. If you don't have $1,000 to start, then don't mess with it. Drive it stock with a loud exhaust and act like you are cool.

If you can't steer it and can't stop it, don't make it go faster.

St Petersburg is South of Clearwater Florida and West of Tampa over Gandy Bridge. Hit the i-net for a map.
Where are you anyway? What city?
