Exclamation Dizzy question

My friend just got two distributors for $60. Oone of them was supposed to be for a Z6 head but the guy said he confused himself and couldnt remember which is which, so he said, "10 more bucks and you can have the other one." so thats what went down. Well, what should the numbers on the distributor say? One says: TD41U and B14. The other one says: TD41U and what looks to be 4T10. Well i called up one of my friends who works at Discount Auto Parts and he said for the Z6 head it should be TD42U or TD44U... Can you motor guru's help me out here? We want to have this swap done sometime this weekend. Thanks for the help in advance.

-Joe

Neither sound like Z6 distributors , those distributors are off of DX/LX civic's TD41U. Also TD44U distributors came off of D15Z1 (VX) civics and JDM D15B VTEC engines, TD42U's are the z6 distributors both are pretty much identical though. And all the honda distributors internals(i.e. Advance/Ignitors and a few other parts) are interchangeable among one another (even the B series distributors) as long as they comply to the same OBD. (Everything i refrenced to above is for 92-95(OBD-I) civics BTW)

anything that is obd1 (obd2 if you wanna change the plug) and the bolts fit. even if only 1 or 2 bolts fit as long as you can adjust it so the timing is right it will work.

TD42U or TD44U distributor either should work. The TD41U is for LX/DX cars, wich will not fit/work properly on a Z6 head (wich is what i'am assuming what you are trying to use it for). So your best bet is to find a TD44U (D15Z1 VX Distributor) , or a TD42U (EX/Si Distributor) carcass and swap over the advance/ignitor and other needed parts. Either that or just buy a new distributor. Sorry but those 2 distributors your friend bought are not D16Z6 or D15Z1 distributors are are incompatible with a vtec head.

What a great idea , nothing better then letting a distributor hang by 1 bolt. Do it right the first time and install the proper distributor.
