Default Knock Sensor

Hey guys, I am new to Hondas and I just bought a 97 Hatch with a d16y8 swap in it. The guy told me there is no knock sensor and the car is throwing a check engine light. He said all I gotta do is buy the sensor, and run a wire to the ECU. Is this gonna be that simple? NEED HELP! Thanks in advance.

Ps. Also is this sensor really important? Or can I go w/o it?

you can go without it, but the ecu will pull timing and the car will be slower, no doubt.

but the questrion is what ecu do you have? a simple fix would be a P28 because they have no knock sensor, and then you wont have to install it

but you can get a knock sensor but they are expensive and wire it up, not too hard at all, just find the ecu pinout for your ecu and run it

do i have to buy a special connector to hook to the sensor? Or does the sensor just have a wire that you run all the way to the ECU? Im not worried about the price, just about how hard and what peices it will take to install it...thanks alot!

The guy also said he grounded out the spot where the sensor went, not sure what that means or what effect it would have, but he said itd be easy to find...

Buy a conversion harness. Check into www.kenji211.com. Then run a p28 ecu. A knock sensor brand new from Honda is about $150. So just buy the harness for about a $100 and a p28 for a hundred. You end up spending $50 more but you will run into alot less check engine lights and emissions restrictions by going obd1.

I might be buying the sensor off of Dampach, if not ill post up again. But out of curiosity how much slower does the sensor actually make the car? And what does the sensor actually do?

Bought the sensor off of Dampachi today, seemed like a cool guy. I only had 40 bucks on me and he let it go for 40 and also helped me point out where to plug in the sensor both on the block and at the ECU. Will be installing the sensor as soon as it stops raining. A+++++ seller if everything goes good!
