Default building an sohc vtec turbo - questions

i am gonna go with forged internals and an upgraded valve train. i have a few questions for you guys who have expierance with turbo's in general and the sohc:
which block and head are best? iv herd the z6 block is better and the y8 head is better, but i have no expierance with either.
what kinda manifold is best for a dd? iv heard that the tubulars tend to last the longest, but again i'v never used one.
are they any advantages of an external wastgate?
who makes a good turbo cam?

any information and/or expierances would be appriciated.

the tubular mani tends to be more of an equal length on the runners so you get better power through the exhaust pulse dynamics. the external gate is better for a few reasons; 1. the internal gate if it is say an 8psi gate, will start to open around 6psi and creep open slowly until you hit 8psi. the external gate with an 8psi spring wil open at 8psi ( with I am sure a margin of error for manufacturing differences, but I'd say 7.5psi worst case). this makes for faster spool up. 2. the internal is a diaphram as opposed to the spring on an external, making the external stand up to the repetative motion of open and close. result is a longer lasting gate and a more accurate gate. 3. the external gate can have boost changed by a spring, where the internal has to have the entire actuator changed. both can be adjusted through the use of a boost controller but for the cheapest route the spring is the way to go. 4. the external gate looks cool as hell.

crower stage 2 turbo cam is a good cam

d16y8 and z6 I believe are the same except the a litle more weight on the z6 if I remember correctly.

Yes on the y8 head.

What are you power goals?

check turbod16.com for boosted singlecam gurus.

thanx for all the input guys, and keep it comming.

i dont really have a set power goal. i just want it to be quicker than my ls w/ctr pistons and i want it to hold up pretty well, since it will be my daily driver. other than that the power i make will be determined by what parts i can find for cheap.
