Yes, do it yourself.. my friend Mike Yonkie Mig welded mine and i just grinded down the welds. piping is easy. just 3 total pieces really.

+1 for d15b.... I'm with everyone as far as DOHC owning SOHC for some of the advantages but I'm sorry... the JDM d15 is a pretty bad lil motor IMO~ I was pretty impressed by the one in my friend's crx

d16y8 and z6 I believe are the same except the a litle more weight on the z6 if I remember correctly.

Yes on the y8 head.

What are you power goals?
Go straight up y8, it's the simplest route. Best route IMO.

You said you don't really have a power goal, and thats cool. But lets face it, you have to have something to shoot for before turning a wrench.

I'm wondering just what that is.

Your goal can be Time related, speed related, pressure related, cost related, etc.. If I know where you stand, it will be easier to make suggestions.

ok well i got an ls rebuilt with ctr pistons about 3k ago. and im gonna sell that and get a d-series, and with the money left over piece together a nice homemade turbo kit, and i got some insurance money on the way, about 1k and ill use that to build up the internals and head. so its pretty much a $$$ related goal. but power is second on the list.

Seeing as how you want a boosted single cam and don't already have a d motor and are budget oriented in achieving your goal; I would reccommend visiting ww.hmotorsonline.com. While your there, you'll notice that they offer a D15b complete longblock for $435. Add a tranny for $150. http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30019

That's about as good as it gets for power/performance per dollar. You could build a reliable 300whp motor with as little as pistons and rods internally and a good turbo kit/tuning. Not to mention if the $150 tranny price includes the JDM tranny, it will be LSD already. The USDM tranny has been my weak link many times.
