Tuning 101... MTBER vs. SOHC turbo.

First off I have to give props to one hell of a street tune done by our very own MTBER on my friends SOHC hatch...
A lot of people don't give credit to the single cam community. Most of the DOHC fellas just don't see them being as a viable platform to even work with. They are disgarded into scrap yards and sold for cheap through our very own Tamparacing. A friend of mine has a Civic Si hatch. Decent car, not the cleanest, not the most outstanding. He has gone from all motor, to nitrous and finally turbo.
We'll start this story here. My friend, known here as SuperHatch69. Recently bought a Ebay turbo kit. It came with a knock off Tial gate, a Tial BOV, and a 50trim t3/t4 witha .63 a/r. He started out with running an SAFC2, and attempting to have it tuned on a dyno. This failed, for reasons unknown at the time, and he went on his way with a half-tuned and very lean top end setup on 11psi. He was running 450's at the time and could not figure out why the AFC could not deliver enough fuel. A few weeks later. I talked him into letting me try to tune the car using Uberdata. After several days of my blundering blindly through the system. We realized that his AFC was in fact hooked up incorrectly. Durring several tests of trying to formulate a basemap for the computer,It crashing and doing other things I just was not happy with. I decided to completely remove his AFC, and solder all the connections back to stock. This immediately eliminated several of his issues. However Uberdata kept throwing a CEL and not allowing his car to idle properly. Finally today, I decided to switch to Chrome, which although it a little more difficult then Uberdata, I found it more to my liking and generally more stable.
Now I have been consulting with Alpha, and MTBER about Chrome and Uberdata over the course of my venture. They have both been overly helpful and for that I am very greatful. Tonight, MTBER suggested that it would be much safer for my friends car, and my ego, to just let him tune it for a nominal fee. I was a little skeptical. I really wanted to do this myself. Im not really much inclined to let someone else tune my car, and really wanted the chance to learn this stuff on my own, and do a decent job with the wideband, which isn't here yet, tuning my friends car. After some thought and negotiation, my friend and I agreed to meet MTBER tonight, and let him do the tuning.
I have to say I was very impressed with his knowledge of ECU's and of tuning in general. I was very excited watching him tune the car, and seeing the car go from spuddering, and popping from 5Krpm, to the incredible power it appears to have now from 5K-8200. Keep in mind the turbo is a bit larger then one would generally use on a single cam. It does not make great power until 5K, but when the turbo spools, it's like a completly different car. MTBER himself was pretty impressed with it. Watching the wheel jerk from torque steer is something I didnt think I'd see on this hatch. It has been long overdue, and long awaited. MTBER has brought this car from 129bhp, to what I could educatedly guess, as being mid 200's easy. The tune was quite conservative. Keeping it in the mid to low 11's a/f and the timing set around 16.5btdc.
I cannot wait to get the car on the dyno, and even more so, see what it can do on the track with some slicks, and suspension.
MTBER was very open about what he was doing, why he was doing it, and even more so, helped me learn a great deal tonight about Chrome's inner workings, how to maneuver my way through it, and setup something for future tunes on other cars. Perhaps even my Civic if I decide to bring it back out as before.
Thanks John.

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fucking temperamental.
