Boosted A/F, what's your opinion?

Until recently, I was always happy with aiming for 12.5-12.8:1 on my boosted cars, when tuning. However recently someone who's opinion I value as a tuner has said he perfers, at least for safety, to use high 11's to 12.0:1 for tuning. Keep in mind, the engine is a stock internal motor.
What is your take on this? What does everyone here perfer?

I like to keep my air fuel around 11.6-11.8:1 just for safety on pump gas... on race gas i would say 12.0-12.5:1 which is still very conservative... I feel being conservative is the way to go on street cars...

What do those numbers represent? Why? Not what you choose, but why you choose them?
I just like having that little extra room for error, and I like not having to worry about detonation and melting shit... The richer air fuel ratio gives me that safety net against detonation, and also lower egt's....

I will sit back for a while and have some of the other people that tune cars explain it.

My basis for saying 12.5-12.8:1 are all from reading. I have limited real-world expierence with tuning on a dyno. Most of mine has been adding fuel until I feel safe with the EGT and narrowband
Which until recently when the egt broke has been very sucessful.
