Bad News (turbo issue)
Apparently doug's (94lsteg) turbo is not running correctly...again. He just called and said that he is showing boost but it's not going anywhere. He is on his way over so we can check for shaft play.
Kinda sucks mainly because he doesn't really dog this snail out at all. And secondly because almost everything that could go wrong with a car does go wrong with his...
This post might be premature but any ideas as to what the problem might be?
He says its not a vac leak or a boost leak so we will shortly find out :\
prob another trip to visit good ole' dave is in order.

Making boost, but no power? Could be the turbo... might not be. Make sure the wheels have not made contact with the housings. If they have, it's time for a not-so-cheap upgrade.
do NOT run a turbo that has touched the housings. This WILL grenade eventually. Boom no good.

They wont lock to the housing right away, the might not ever lock up.
I've seen turbos that made 20+psi and made shitty power. It had a lot of play but wasn't hitting the housing yet.
2 weeks later, it began to hit the housing.
I told the guy it needed a rebuild soon, but he just wanted to run it till it blew up.
The car would make boost and go nowhere... then make no boost and also.. go nowhere.
He trashed the compressor wheels the bearings, the housings and basicly. The rebuild was over 700 dollars.
If you keep running a turbo that is touching the housings it will die a horrific and exciting death.
Actually. Keep doing it, and take pix when it goes.

I don't know anything about this kid's setup either. If his boost source is comming from the wastegate it could show boost, and he could have a blown IC pipe.
The fact that he shows boost, and isn't going anywhere is a not so great sign. Only two things I can think of are the turbo and the motor.

it also could be because he has no clutch, so.... thus he is making boost but going nowhere.... as in his motor is putting down no power.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the turbo was bad, it wouldnt show boost at a post throttle body source.... If there is boost in the intake manifold, it is getting to the motor... Either the clutch is finally 100% toast, or the motor went to the pooper....
