Hey folks, i have a question that i never understood the answer too, why are the teeth on a gear of a tranny in an angle instead of straight?

basically they're quieter that way. got a phone call comin in so i'll get back later w/ more detail

lol i had to edit this cause the phone alert came up on my screen while writing and by accident i put stronger instead of quieter. i was thinking about the arguement everyone has about the strength between angle and straight gears, and was writing fast so i could answere the phone.

hmm i allways figured the link between the teeth would b weaker cause theres less surface area for the teeth to touch, or am i seeing that wrong.

ok i'm back ( damn phone!!!) lol actually i should say that the biggest reason for the angled gears is to make them quiet. ever notice how reverse whines so loud? reverse gears are usually staight cut gears and they're pretty noisy. the longer gear srurface in the angle gears makes em a lil stronger, but some peole say that straights are stronger. lol but i remember a long time ago, that was a question in the ase test and the answer they wanted was noise.

sweet man thx, yeah that makes sence, i allways wondered why reverse is noisy, i allways thought it was cause of the xtra gear thats inbetween the drive and the reverse gear.
