time i did and times i did not. when i did not i just lossened it with a impact close to the end then placed it on the ground flush to a wall with the bolt facing the wall and the loosened with a wrench till it came off holding it down with my feet or someone holding it and when it comes off it will just be released into the wall and you will be fine.

 

well i was always warned that the bolt could kill you, so i alwasy took the precaution don't want to tell the guy oh yeah just unbolt it and then he dies from a bolt killing him
