Question ECU Chipping

Hey guys, I'm on my way to finishing the turbo set up and i'm just trying to get as many things out of the way as possible. I was looking at this write-up and it gets me pretty excited, since i can solder. Anyway this other site sells the uberdata kit for only 15 dollars, and I want to burn it into my ecu, but I am not going to get it tuned for a while, will the ecu still function properly as long as the actual chip isn't in there? Or will I have to wait until the turbo is on and the car is about to be tuned. Really what I'm trying to say is will soddering in the socket the capacitors the wire jumper and the resistor make the ecu be required to run the chip? Or can i just leave the chip out and have the ecu run normally. Not that it has any real relavence to my question but my ecu is a p30 for a b16a3. Thanks, guys.

Just don't solder in the jumper wire and you will be fine, you can go ahead and solder in everything else though. If you solder in the jumper wire the ecu will look for the chip and if it isn't there you will have problems.

Personally, I would chip the ecu & run a p30 basemap so the ecu essentually has the same values as it did before, it just reads them from the 29c256 eprom chip instead.
