Default aint this the shit

ok here it is, I started a few weeks ago with my starter going out. I pulled the starter and the insides were pretty nasty so I got a replacement, but the samething happened. I would have intermitant problems with the car not starting, you would hear the solenoid click but the motor would crank over. ( its a b16 in an 88crx si so there is no starter relay). It would always push start real easy.

so I figured since the starter was from a salvage yard it probably had a corroded spot and it would work its way out.....it didn't. it would not work after I just got off the highway but then would work after sitting all night long so the battery wasn't an issue. I had autozone run a test on the battery and the alternator to make sure I was charging with enough amps to start the car. well 120 amps at 2000rpms is pretty good from the expression on the guys face when I said it was a stock engine, the battery was good as well, optima yellow top in use for less than 6 months.

so I swapped out with another starter and ..........nothing the fucker didn't start so I got to thinking about starter wattage ratings and current draw, voltage, gauge of the wire, length of wire since battery is now in back of car, and nothing made sense. the electrical aspect was perfect. so on shits and giggles I went back out to the car, turned on the radio (2000 watts of radio), all the neons, and the other misc electronic add ons. and it took 2 trys but the fucker fired and ran. turn all the shit off then turned off the car and restarted it, it worked....a couple more times it worked.........then nothing.

at this point all I could figure is the flywheel has to have a flatspot and a couple teeth have to be broken. so while the car was in that area that it wouldn't start I stayed real quiet and tried to start the car, and while holding down the start button I hear this hum like a motor turning, I let go of the button and the hum stops, the starter clicks from the gear going back into place and I think I have it solved. well it was late so I have to wait till tomorrow to pull the starter and look at the flywheel but I think this is it.

now I have an extra b16 oem flywheel to throw on that I have to look at to see what condition it is in, but if it's not usable I.E. stress fractures and alot of discoloration I am thinking of just replacing it with a lighter flywheel for like 150 from ebay.

if it is the flywheel when I pull it I will be able to look at the clutch disc to see what condition it is in since it is the original one that came with the engine.

if the clutch is screwed or will be soon I am thinking of this

just the flywheel

what do you think about these 2 or what else could be the issue. thanks oh and this is for an engine that is soon to be boosted to about 10 psi
