Fan works aslong as the car sits and idles its fine as sone as you drive it the heat gauge goes straight to hot.

If the overheating started AFTER you replaced the thermostat AND you've got sufficient coolant, chances are you've got some air in the system. Happens all the time. Before stressing over possible problems, just pop the cap and let the car idle for a while. Keep an eye on the radiator neck for bubbles and on the thermostat reading for overheating. After fifteen or so minutes, put the cap back on and test it out.

from a personal experience, if the car overheats when driven and its fine when you are stopped, sounds like a bad circulation, wheather the water pump is bad or the radiator is clogged. Again, this is if fans work and the coolant is not low.
