Default h23vtec rev limit

i used to have an h22 with stock internals and would take it to 8500 all day long and never had a problem. now i have an h23 vtec setup with crower rods and je pistons along with the h22 oil jets and a stock head. the question i have is how high do you guys think i can rev it.

Well then only rev to your stock limit. Your cams won't make power after that anyway. After you build the head, THEN rev to whatever the cams will make power at. I'm not sure how fast the bottom end can spin though, i think that was your original question.

with the big stroke of the h23 bottom (95mm I think or bigger) end I wouldn't rev that high. 7000 to 7500rpms is all I would feel safe with. Those bottom ends tend to spin rod bearings when revved higher. Did you have the crank balanced when it was put together, that seems to help a bit.

h23 bottom end will not hold up. if you want 2.3L and want to rev to 8K+, you need to use h22 stroke and use over-sized 89-90mm pistons.. this will allow you to rev to those rpms and mantain a shorter stroke.
