Stupid Fuel Gauge!
ok, my wife's car (95 civic 4dr. EX) is perfect except for the damn fuel gauge. ever since she bought it the damn thing never worked. it's always on FULL. sometimes it would work for like a minute or two, but then it runs back up to FULL. i checked the sending unit, it's fine. this thing is getting too irritating, but I don't know what to do about it.
If you guys can help me out, it would be great. any tips, or maybe articles that addressed this topic or anything would be appreciated...thanks a lot in advance!

Since its always on full, and you said you already checked the sending unit, sounds like the wires are pinched somewhere. They are completing the circiut somewhere and sending full juice back to the guage. Gonna have to trace the wires back and look for damage.
that's cool, i guess it's just this civic that has this stupid problem. Anyways, I will tracec the wire and post how it went, just in case someone else gets this same problem later on...thanks for the inputs so far!
hey guys, I took everything out so i can see all the wiring and everything seems in order. I am starting to think that it's the wiring harness that conects the two wires (black and yellow) to the fuel sending unit. do wiring harnesses go bad a lot????
I'd appreciate it if someone can respond because I have the car all ripped apart and stuff....thanks in advance!

the harnesses don't normally go bad, if you think the connection at the sending unit is bad then I would unplug the connector and use a jumper wire to connect the harness to the sending unit ( color to color ) or with the harness disconnected look to see or ohm out the harness for continuity between the connections in the plug basically shorting the sender out of the circuit and giving you a full reading on the gauge. what test did you do to see if the sender was ****? if the variable resistance is actually in the sender, like it should be, then you need to check the resistance at full and empty levels and make sure there is a difference.
yea i checked the sending unit, and it's giving me difference Ohm measurements (resistance) at different positiong (full, mid, empty). so i know the sender is fine. i pulled out the carpet and everything so i can see the wires starting from the fuel sending unit all the way up to the front of the car, and i can't see any obvious short or anything like that.
so here's what I am thinking to do, because I am getting really pissed off at this. I am wondering how hard would it be to make my own fuel gauge. I want to know if anyone has instructions on how to hook some sort of gauge up to the sending unit so that it would read the fuel level. Thanks so much for the inputs so far. Keep them comming!!!
