Default New Clutch?

Hi, my friend just bought a new clutch, and I think there's something wrong with it. We drive for about an hour on city roads and the clutch doesn't catch at all. The brand he got was ACT. He is in like 5th gear at 5000rpm's doin like 25 and won't go any faster, and we stop to let it cool off for 10 or 15 minutes. It is drivable for about 15 minutes after letting it cool down. Can anyone help us out. Someone told him that all he has to do is drive it around, and the clutch will break in. I think it might be B.S. because he's driven it well over 500 miles and I haven't noticed a difference. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

We are not sure of any of this. Actually I was trying to make a long story short by saying that my friend purchased it and everything. Well, he bought the car w/ the new clutch installed. The only record that the previous owner had was the reciept of the ACT clutch. After it heats up, the rpm's fly up, but the clutch doesn't catch at all. We have no information of how the previous owner put it in, if he resurfaced the flywheel, if it was installed properly, or if the pressure plate is new. The clutch pedal is different from any clutch pedal I've ever felt before. The pedal like sticks, and then pops out really fast. It's weird, like you can't even burn out in the car, because you can't pop the clutch. Help, we need advice.

Throw out bearing? Sounds like your friend got ripped and needs a new clutch for his "new" car
