Default Running "Rich" ? could use a lil info

Ok,
My car has a wierd smell like oil mixed with gas, when I shift in high RPM's.
also When I rev hard black smut comes out my exhaust.

I saw an old friend yesterday and he was saying I was probably running "rich"?

Oil mixes with gas causing me to run rich
wich is caused by bad rings?

I was told I should get a compression test done.

my question is, does all this info seem about right?
and how can I do a compression test? is it something I can do?
or do I need to take it somewhere?

Thanx guys

check the rings. u can go to almost any mechanical shop and get a compression test. the oil wont make u run rich it will just cause ur car to smoke.

smoke can be caused by coolant and oil or gas and oil. how heavy is it smoking?

also, how hard is it gona be to change rings if i've never taken apart my engine before?

if its just a little puff I would'nt worry about it...better rich than to lean you could lower the fuel pressure a few punds if you have an adjustable fpr but if not i would'nt worry about a little puff at high rpms...

If you had bad rings you would have a blueish smoke coming out your exhaust. This would happen most of the time. It doesnt sound like that is your problem. If you go to Autozone they will lend you a compression tester for free. All you have to do is put a deposit down untill you return it. they now do that with all automotive tools. If you have good compression and want to fix the problem a dyno with A/F readings is your best bet.
