VTEC Solenoid clean-out
I posted this a couple months ago and got different responses. One said not to clean it because there is no need, and the others asked why. So I never got a definite answer. I know there is a screen that needs to be cleaned but I don't know where it is or if its necessary. I have 40,000 miles on my 2000 prelude and I have heard after 30,000 its smart to clean it on other vtec cars. If anyone knows about this I would appreciate some info. Thanks

Not true, there is a screen that can be cleaned, i don't know the mileage it's supposed to be cleaned, but it couldn't hurt to do it.

the only screen is between the head and valve.. Non serviceable in all my years in service never once haas honda had a procedure for cleaning Selinoid screen unless there is a problem. Which i doubt there is.
So first it's not servicable, then it's only servicable if there's a problem??? Which is it? Are you saying it's bad to clean something unless there is a problem? I call it maintenance.

Hope this helps: from the Helm's: After removing the VTEC solenoid, if there is evidence of clogging, replace the VTEC solenoid valve filter, as well as change your engine oil and filter.

non servicable means non matinence related. If you have trash in the screen 99.9% of te time the noid is bad and you replace you dont clean.Honda has no procedure for a VTEC noid it says REPLACE if faulty for a reason.
FYI if you have that much trash in your VTEC noid you have OTHER LARGER issues, I gurantee this kid is having problems with his VTEC kick over, in preludes there is a service bulliteen to check oil level it has to be PERFECT in a H22 its pressure sensitive.Or check the Oil pan since it sits .5" from the pickup screen. If you having hesitating issues on a stock H22A remove the Flapper valve in the lower intake and change the oil and check the level problem solved, if you clean VTEC noids with any type of cleaner you damage the noid itself. If youd like to contradict me again i can bring my lude to your house with my manual and let you check it over ? Maybe im wrong and my training lied to me Im sure honda has a thing about teaching their techs the wrong thing... U think maybe ?

, forgive me for not sharing your thoughts on that, i've seen plenty of Honda techs that didn't know their ass from a hole in the wall, you have yet, in my eyes, to prove otherwise. I'm offering people multiple options, AKA trying to help them, you seem to just want to bitch at them and tell them to buy a manual.
