Default CTR or Stock Rings

I have two questions, but if my first question doesn't work the rest of this post can be avoided.

1. Will CTR rings work with a B18A piston?

2. Would it be better to do a standard replacement for a B18A or go with CTR rings?

I'm working on putting a list together to know what I need to buy and how much it'll cost me. I've got a B18A1 that I'm ganna be rebuilding a short block for (threw the 4th rod and did some nice damage to the block so it'll pretty much be a fresh build on a B18B1 block w/ B18A1 internals). With this said, I don't have any real plans in the near future to do anything spectacular with the motor. If I keep my CRX I'll probably end up putting a turbo on it or something of that nature, but as of right now I'm not ganna plan that I'll be doing anything to it.

I've been reading Honda / Acura Engine Perforance by Mike Kojima, and in the portion about the rings he says that he thinks the OEM Japanese rings are better (to battle high RPM flutter). I currently started working at Advanced Discount Auto Parts and can get the rings (stock) for about 70-80 bucks and the CTR (of the net) for 130 bucks. If it's worth it I'll go with the CTR, but if it's not then I'll just stick with stock til I start doing any modify that requires me to build up the motor.

Thank you very much for any help. If you'd like to talk to me in 'real-time' you can try sending me an IM on AIM: mrdoveman. Thanks again.

Joel

They should all be the same...They use the same bore and I can't imagine that the rings are thicker...

Get the rings at your job for $70 and be done...Check the gaps and make adjustments as needed...

I'd get itr ones from Honda but I'm 99% sure the ls/gsr/itr/b16a rings are all the same.

I'd just like to thank everyone for responding so far.

Sunrise City Rider: According to Kojima, the rings are lighter (? how lighter help I dunno)

KJ: wouldn't they cost me more like 200 for ITR rings from honda themselves?

everyone else: what's your opinion. CTR or Stock?

If they are lighter, then 1) either they are made of a different material or 2) they are a different thickness...And as far as piston ring weight, that is the last place I would look for saving weight on my reciprocating assembly...Now if you want to save weight and have thicker top ring land, look into getting Single Compression Ring pistons...

Sunrise City Rider: it's not a matter of trying to save weight compared to quality. I'd like to do the best I can to get good stuff. With the way that you've talked I'd take it that you say go with stock?

rangcrx: Thanks but no thanks. I can get them from my store with a discount for cheaper than that. And I might be able to get them next day... all depending. Thanks anyways though.

everyone else: The question is still up. Is CTR rings a better ring to go with then the stock LS rings? I'd be much abliged on opinions here
