Default 13:1 Compression

After putting 1/2 tank 93 octane, an octane booster plus 1/2 tank of aviator fuel (100 octane), advancing the timing gear 2.5 degrees, retarding the ignition time, and boostin the fuel pressure gauge up to 47psi we found that when we put a bit of load on the throttle the engine still ping'd. But hey there was no sign of detonation on the plugs and there was a clean orange burn all the way across.

So it being 11pm, me still having a 2 + hour ride home (dayum I-4 construction), we decided the mill was too much for the head and a thicker head gasket was probably needed.

We were right. Today David took the car over to his friends shop and doing the compression calculations they found it to be 13:1.

We have now ordered a thicker head gasket that is used in boost applications and we are hoping this will lower my compression ratio. like i have a freakin choice...

so OOPS! any thoughts?

oh yea...all the codes cleared, the small oil leak from the plug drilled into the head fixed, the radiator replaced, david having walked an acura teg with li'l effort, this seems to be our next conquest!

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

yep... id defently lower the compression if you want it to be streetable (driven on 93 octane). Also has it been dyno/ what do you have done.

nope. i just finished building it and now it is break in time. and yes i def want it streetable.

it's a high compression sohc build up using zc pistons. i tore it down to nothing but bare block and under the instruction of David, built it back up! the details are somewhere in this forum.

it run soooo smooth...like stock... er

No one suspected this? I don't think i would feel to comfortable GUESSING what my engine's compression MIGHT be after the rebuild, I thought you said this guy was really good.

There was expectation that we would be in the 12's. 13 was a schocker and a mistake.

I can't really blame him, just as I can't blame myself. This was a teaching and experimental project. And considering that the engine is running very smoothly, with no leaks, codes, etc. I think we did pretty well.

Granted the compression is high, it will take care and maintenance, especially in the Florida heat. I think it is a good challenge and learning experience for me.

My cars are brats, I am really use to them wanting special things

Plus now I can go get the Prelude I want as my daily driver although this one was supposed to be. Live and learn.
