Diffs. between the b18a and b18b?
Just wondering which motor is better and why does one have more horse or torque besides the a being older any other things?
Thanks

ya i would like to know too, i have not been able to find any good information on the the differences of the b18a/b. i was kinda just looking for a comparison of the 2 motors to see what im dealing with.
The B18a is from the 90-91 integra. It has 130hp.
in 1992 the 2nd revision of the b18a was released with 140hp, becuase of bigger cams (more lift/duration), better exhaust and intake manifolds. In 1994 the b18b came with better head design (coolant passages changed) also different intake manifold again - 142hp.
The major differences between them (physical structure):
1. coolant sensor 4 the fan control is on the rear of the block on B18a and on the thermo housing on the B18b
2. driver side motor mount that bolts to the block is different
3. crank pulley on a B18A has a v-belt for the power steering and on the B18B it has a Tri-rib belt for the power steering.
The blocks are almost exactly the same, I would get either - it just depends on which you can find and how much you can get it for.

^*edit* damn, beat me to it. ohh well...^
USDM b18a (90-91) = 130 hp, 121 ft/lbs
USDM b18a (92-93) = 140 hp, 121 ft/lbs
USDM b18b (94-00) = 142 hp, 127 ft/lbs
all of them have: 81mm bore, 89mm stroke, 9.2:1 c/r, same crank, 1834cc. pretty much the only difference in the blocks is the engine code stamp.
the only real difference through the years has been revised cams, ecu's, intake and exhaust manifolds

the second version of the b18a went on through 95.... the b18b was not put in the integras until 96 when they were converted to obd2... so 90-91 are non obd (i believe) 92-95 are obd1 and 96-2001 obd2 (pretty much the same as the civics....)

ECU maps are slightly tweaked on the obd2's as well. I don't believe the exhaust manifold attributed to the higher numbers.
I believe it's basicly, intake cam, intake manifold, and ecu mapping. I don't recall weather the exhaust cam is changed at all.
The heads between the years are changed very little, and the differences other then internals are negledgable.
