i know during a normal break in period the engine may consume some oil (1/2 quart or less) but 1.5 quarts is a little to much, id defentily take it to the dealor to see whats up. Also did you go the 600 miles that the dealor says to go before getting on it.

Yea i did the breakin miles but i went up to 1000 before even getting to 6500.

My friend has a 02 Si and the i-VTEC thing is all weird. He knows a good amount about the K series motors. Hes told me that his car has 3 stages of VTEC... the first stage kicking it at something like 2200 RPM. I'll let him know about this thread, he will clear up some stuff about i-VTEC.

I always make fun of him, saying that i-VTEC=Diet VTEC... meaning that the "first generation" VTEC was sooo much better.

All i-VTEC really is, is for economic gasmileage.

Default oil consumption

This subject was covered extensively on Edmunds.com for months. The new Si's will burn what appears to be alot of oil for the first 3 or 4 K miles, then settle down to about 1/2 quart every 3 K miles.
The iVTEC system is all different from the previous version of vtec. The crossover point is like 3.3K rpms. It's on almost all the time without driving too aggressively. That's why the gas mileage sucks compared to the 5th generation. Most guys were getting AT BEST 30 mpg per tank on daily, mostly highway driving, where on my eg hb I would get 37 mpg average even after almost 200k miles.

my moms type s has 3.5k miles and no oil buring problems and she uses the vtec daily, and i use it almost every stop light and no oil problems or anything. but 3200 vtec engagement is low it should 4000+ before it should engage. And i-vtec stands for intellgent vtec, but i see only one stage of vtec on the type s 6k to 8100. before 6k theirs no jerk like at 6k, so im still wondering were the intellgent part is.....
