We I ofically entered the 40MPG club during this trip. 41.7 Loren Beat me in overall MPG as he was expected to 1.5 vs. 2.5 litre engines. he was on the cusp of 50MPG. however using the standard scoring method, (EPA/actual mileage) I was able to hit 1.5 somthing where loren was just slightly lower at 1.4 somthing. the other Yaris was a NO-Show.

I have to give the props to Loren for putting on this event and helping me learn some hypermiling techniques. I never expected to win... but a Super low 6th gear and the ability to stretch that 6th gear all the way down to 30MPH gave me that slightest edge.

A whole new way to "kill", eh?

Jeff jumped in as he always does, with both feet, and just hardcore hypermiled it. He was trying WAY harder than I was and deserved to win.

I think I actually learned some from watching Jeff! Maybe someday I'll put it into practice... but it was a LOT of work to pull off what he did. Impressive, indeed.

WOW! The grasshopper taught the sensei.. that's a pleasant change... I have to be honest loren is every bit as compeditive as I am, even if he "plays it off" to be honest I didn't sleep last night because I had 100 diffrent Ideas floating in my head (and I never intended to run this event) but I was sitting wide awake at 5:00 AM (I am a non sleeper when I feel a challenge) and decided to enter. I showed up at the shop at 6:00 AM and started working on the car. removing the wipers, taping the front, and installing a methanol injection system. I really intended to "cheat" by using the crapload of methanol I had in some barrels at my shop, but low and behold. those barrels were filled with waste veggie oil, and no good. so I had to pay $3 per 12 ounce and actually hurt my overall calculation. but they did allow me to force the ECU into lean mode.. on the few times I needed some Really hard acceleration.

But I'll agree, I am a student of the "go big or go home" school it's how I build cars and how I compete. this was just a whole new challenge and I loved it.
