that is the basis of the idea in newer hybrids that have the system that when u use the breaks it recharges the battery a little. i am pretty sure it works by when u let off the gas it, it kills the electric motor and the drive train continues to turn the electric motor turning it into a generator. creating electricity just like the alternator does.
