um...will u should know its the same motor but with different specs to reach the higher hp numbers. u should also know the ls1 motor in the Z28's are way underrated and hit corvette numbers rather frequently, more than GM cares to admit. the ls1 in the Z28 are just as potent as the ones in the c5's. now about the L S 6 (for some reason the board will not let me say is together) ....that would be an interesting swap to do, but i think the ls1 is just as capable.

dont both corvette and Z28's share the t-56 tranny? i beleive they do, the only difference is the shifter sits right on the tranny in the Z28, and in the corvette it doesnt, so it uses a shifter cable, which isnt as reliable i remember hearing as it tends to break when used for racing. any1 feel free to correct me if im wrong on anything.

www.ls1.com is a great place to learn more about the ls1.

The longblock will drop right in no problem. The T56 on the vette is in the rear of the car with a huge Tq tube connecting them. Mechanical linkage connects the shifter to the tranny. Vette also uses a fly by wire TB that canott be used with a Camaro. But those are all peripheral items. The motor is the same for all intents and purposes. Some years has slightly differnt cams that didnt require and EGR hole in the intake....but that is mnor stuff. Why do you ask Will? There is really no benifit...the money would be better used in upgrades to your LS1.

Ok...since everyone thinks LS1s are sooo damn expensive....Ill let you in on a secret. Call Alan Futral at Futral motorsports in La and order and Iron block 375 ci motor. The entire shortblock built and assembled will cost you approx $2999. You can go 383 like mine for about $3400. Top it off with some TEA stage II heads and giant cam for about $1800. So for less than $4900 you can have a 460 rwhp motor that will still get 25 mpg and be more streetable that any V8 on the road even remotely in its HP range NA . Ohhh..forgot to add...just hit it with a 200 shot and youll be putting down some serious HP ready to run with the best of them. Easy 650+ rwhp.

Why not build it yourself and it costs half that?

Carl...that would be for someone who wanted it built. Even still I doubt you could do it at half the price with similiar quality components.
Block $550 LQ4(cheap iron one)
rods $500-700
pistons $600
Machine work $200-250
Crank $300-350
rings, bearings $200-250
offset grinding crank $200

Even saving money with Eagle rods its gonna cost close to $2500 or more.

Of course if you have have a block, crank, use stock rods you can do an awesome budget build up REAL cheap. This LS1 stuff is coming down in price quick. With that motor being put in damn near every truck and SUV GM makes it will only get better too. Spares will be abundant.

He still uses the stock rods from what he told me.. so minus the 500-700 and you dont have to buy a new crank, just offset it. minus another 350.

Trust me, it is VERY doable as Im building MY motor right now. Its ALOT cheaper than what they charge!!
