I think I'd prefer the SRT-4 here.

colbalt ss is the same as the saturn redline. colbalt has metal body and weights a little more. redline has plastic body. there are a decnt amount of after market support for the colbalt however the srt has alot of after market support. you will hit a wall with tuning on the colbalt 's supercharger and then everything from there becomes custom. srt you mearly have to upgrade with company produced parts.

I bet the Cobalt SS would be a fun car. The Neon has more potential though.

neons like with most chrysler based motors have problems with burning and leaking oil. there are a hell of a lot more parts for them aftermarket wise. you might want to hold out on either one because the dodge caliber is supposed to have an srt option since it is the successor to the neon. it should have a little more power and prolly be more reliable since it was made AFTER the germans cleaned up chrysler's mess. don't expect it to be easy on the eyes though because the calibers i have seen are as ugly as the new durrangos.
