who here has an electric cutout?
I'm thinking of doing that until I can get the cash for true duals..
where do you reccomend to get installed, how much for installation.. with wiring..
where to mount switch?
anybody who has it.. is there a noticeable difference?

I have dual cutouts on a custom setup. Just about any exhaust shop can install the cutout. Just cap it off when you leave the exhaust shop. Then you really should be able to install the wiring part. It doesnt get ANY easier. Its a snap. Tw wires and your done...one power one ground. Mount the switch anywhere. I like mine. You just have to be careful going over bumps. I ripped the wires out of one of mine already.

you can get the "mccord power plate" I believe, it's sized exactly to fit in the ashtry so you don't have to drill holes in your center console

If you are looking to get an electric cutout check out www.DMHPerformance.com
They're much better made and more reliable then the QTecs.

Yeah, it's doing me no good as a car part sitting in my room. What is the stock LS1 exhaust diameter after the Y pipe? I don't know if it's the right size- it's a 3" plate with 10 feet of cord. I went overboard on the cord because I didn't know where I was going to install it. I paid 199 minus 20 for that y pipe, so 179 and I think shipping was free... so 160? I'll go check and make sure I have all the original documentation and stuff, I know I just took it out of the box to look at it then put it back in. If I don't have the documentation for some reason then I'd drop 10 off the price.
The papers were with the cutout. The documentation is all of two pages, a warranty page and the instructions, but the instructions have important details on them so I guess that's not bad.
I went and did a search on ls1tech, the stock piping should be 2.5" before the y and 2.75 after. It seems like most people go with dual 2.5" cutouts, I think a 3" would work coming off the single 2.75.
That's a good question for GM Tech- would a single cutout off the 2.75 right after the y be advantageous? Is it worth it for 98SOM to buy the single 3" and have it welded in with some sort of 2.5-3" Y pipe?

i dont personally like electric cutouts. guys play with them for the first few months. then they short out and never close right. then you have an annoying exhaust leak.
noting wrong with welding a 3" cutout on a 2.75" OEM intermediate pipe. it will flow fine.
i enjoy my OEM SLP catback with cutout (old school three bolt style) lol. plus it was 40 bucks installed.
