Al, I saw in war stories that you got your car back together. I remember you mentioning that you wanted to remove a couple hundred pounds but keep the interior looking stock. You also mentioned that the car is now quieter inside than it was. Can you tell us what you did to your interior? What kind of weight savings did you accomplish (guesstimates will be accepted for the time being
) Whats the next step for the motor?

Yes...some of it was from aircraft. The rest was on the new lightweight carpet.
There was alot of useless stuff in that car. Once you pull the carpet out you see tons of things that can be removed or trimmed.
Some of the things i removed this time around:
*Tar like sound deadener under the dash, in the rear well. Had to use a heat gun and scraper. Atleast 15 lbs worth
*rear seatbelt brackets, various brackets 10 lbs
*passnger airbag 12lbs
*AC equipment under dash, blower etc 40 lbs
*extra wiring not used like CD changer harness 10 lbs
*hood latches and latch mechanism 12 lbs
and various other crap i cant even remeber. that added up to around 140 lbs. I added about 40 lbs with the cage. So Im at -100 there.
Next things to go in are:
* lightweight K member/solid mounts -40
*Hal adjustable shocks/springs -5-7 lbs
*Hawker lightweight battery -30 lbs
*some brackets on the nose of the car 15 lbs
and some other stuff I cant think of.
Then for track prep I will remove the two front seats and use a lightweight race seat -75lbs
I also now use a carbon fiber nitrogen bottle instead of a steel one. -25 lbs
Those are all rough estimates. The first 120 lbs we reomved was actually measured. But after that I was convinced I was getting somewhere and just continued not weighing stuff. There is lots im forgetting. The thing is...if your going to do a weight reduction program...do it all the way..or not at all. Every little thing adds up.
