Default Pump gas, how fast can you go?

Does anyone have any idea about how fast you can go running just 93 octane? I have a regular old SBC with a plate NOS kit. How fast have people been able to go and still run pump gas? Any thoughts?

I can go roughly 600 rwhp on 93 octane. ETs and traps are still TBD.

If I remember correctly, just a few months ago CHP mag did an artical on a BBC which made over 1000 HP on 93 octane. I don't know how streetable it would be, but I wonder. The way I see it is as long as you can control detination the sky is the limit. We run race fuel so we don't have preignition, right? If I make 600 on the motor and I spray 300 to it, as long as I am not melting spark plugs, what's the problem?

Octane requirement is greater the smaller the displacement.

Also pump gas is to be defined as 93..not 116 you got from a pump.

Only way I see to get big power on pump gas is big cubic inches with mild compression. Nitrous..no way without melting stuff.

HTH

I run pump gas..93 with alky

The Later model Gm cyl heads ie the LS1 and LS6 are far superior to those in the hot street SBC. The combustion chambers are far evolved from the SBC's and when modified are yet farther ahead. I have been able to do numerous 12:1 vehicles on 93oct and no knock, when there was spk knock I could just retard under peak torque and all is well. I have yet to see an all out setup that really pushes it as far a compression and power in a genIII SBC.
Al or hybridSS is probably the closest to this as of now making 707RWHP and 721RWTQ on a bit of spray. I know of a few TT setups making over this power level on 91oct.
