Default Buying my first car

I am a 19 year old college student about to purchase my first car. I am looking for a new car that is going to be quick, but within the $20,000 price range, and with the ability to be modified in the future with ease. I was looking into the new SRT-4, the 2door 6speed v6 accord, the v6 tiburon, and possibly the WRX (but my friend already has one). I have heard a lot of good things about the SRT-4 in magazines and its performance specs look very impressive (245 ft/lbs of torque, 228 hp to the wheels). However, i tend to hear a lot of shit being talked about it in these forums, albeit mainly from people who own mustangs and camaros and firebirds. I am just curious, are these comments valid? is dodge really that bad? I know it cant beat a z28, but granted, the z28 has almost twice the displacement...anyways, i know it doesnt have LSD (limited slip differential), but my friend told me i wouldnt need it until i made the car more powerful. Is this true? I like the tiburon and the accord, but i am leaning towards and engine with a turbo right out of the box, with the thinking that it will run richer, and i will have less problems modding it out in the future. The WRX is very nice, w/ AWD and LSD and a turbo, but it probably only runs like 170 to the wheels stock, and based on numbers, with equal drivers, an srt-4 would win a 1/4 mile race. (plus my friend already has one). If anyone can help me decide or at the very least give me some suggestions on cars to consider (in my price range) with reasons why, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

of the cars you listed, go with the WRX. all wheel drive it the way to go. Or you could go camaro/mustang, V8 rwd is hard to beat. High HP right off the lot.

WRX or Z28. Tiburons blow. The new Accord is nice as fuck, but I wouldn't try to mod it and make it fast (more like throw some dubs and TVs on that bitch ).

I'd go between the Z28 and WRX...check your insurance on both, if that's a factor. I don't know, but I would think the Z28 would cost more to insure. Good luck though. Maybe you should teach some of these other n00bs how to propose a question too. People who know how to ask will get information without a problem.

Get a used 2002 Z28 or Ws6 Firebird\Trans am. Mid 12's with a catback and direct flow lid. You can probably get a late 90's Cobra for that too, not as quick as the Fbodies but still quicker than any of the other stuff you mentioned.

The Accord with the V6 is gonna run you close to 25k.....the Tiburon sucks......SRT-4 is gonna always be just a Neon, and doesn't make 240hp at the wheels. The Z28 might be fast, but will show it's lack of quality quickly. I'd go with the WRX fo sho.

Lack of quality....Hmmm thats strange... My 98 seems to be holding up rather well. It was built and went into service in November of 97 so it is almost a 6 year old car that looks nice and runs 12's. You may be a little mistaken about that opinion but you are welcomed to have it.

Yep, just my opinion....but having 2 GM's of my own, plus having a family that was GM loyal for over 15 yrs has proven to me. My 8 yr old import looks better now than any of the GMs did after just a year or two.

I notice that no one mentions the RSX in this comparison. While the WRX is a quicker car, I'd personally prefer it to the Neon.

Here's a link to a nice on on ebay:
