Premium ListingThis Lola T70 is one of six Mk IIIB continuation cars built by Lola Cars International Ltd. between 2006 and 2008 and was ordered new in 2006 by its current owner, to whom it was delivered in the US in August 2008. Its Chevrolet V8 was subsequently modified with an aluminum block and a displacement increase to 378ci before chassis HU76/161 was driven in events at various East Coast tracks as well as at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Circuit of the Americas, and Road America. Featuring fiberglass bodywork finished in blue over an aluminum monocoque chassis, the car is also equipped with mechanical fuel injection, dry-sump lubrication, a Hewland LG600 five-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, slotted disc brakes with adjustable bias, adjustable coilover shock absorbers, staggered-width 15” center-lock magnesium alloy wheels, a steel roll cage, and a fiberglass racing seat trimmed in black cloth. This T70 Mk IIIB continuation is now offered on dealer consignment in Cockeysville, Maryland, with original order documents, invoices, and a bill of sale.



The Mk IIIB was introduced in 1969 as the ultimate evolution of the T70 and featured a riveted and bonded all-aluminum monocoque wearing fiberglass bodywork with front-hinged doors in lieu of the Mk III’s gullwing-style entry. Sixteen examples of the Mk IIIB were built in 1969, including that year’s 24 Hours of Daytona winner driven by Mark Donahue and Chuck Parsons. In 2005, Lola Cars announced the production of a limited run of continuation cars built to the same specification as the 1969 MK IIIB, with the new chassis eligible for historic racing series. The first of five examples built during the initial production run was unveiled to the public at the Autosport International Show in January 2006, and a sixth car was built in 2008 to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.



Construction replicated the original Mk IIIB’s riveted aluminum monocoque chassis and fiberglass body panels, which on this example are finished in blue with white dorsal stripes. Features include front and rear clamshells secured by pip pins, faired-in headlights, front flicks, adjustable rear spoilers, fender-mounted side mirrors, a laminated-glass wraparound windshield, a Monza-style fuel-filler cap, and an electrical cutoff switch.

 

Magnesium alloy wheels with black spokes are secured by hexagonal knock-offs and are wrapped in Avon slicks measuring 10.5/23.0-15 up front and 15.0/26.0-15 at the rear. Stopping is handled by slotted and ventilated disc brakes with Alcon calipers, cooling ducts, and dual master cylinders with bias adjustable from within the cockpit. Steering is via rack and pinion with adjustable rose-joint linkage.

The cockpit is configured in right-hand drive with black cloth over a fiberglass driver’s seat that is equipped with a Willans six-point harness. Additional features include a steel roll cage, hinged window vents, a right-hand shifter, a Nomex firewall panel, and a fire suppression system.



The three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel sits ahead of a Stack 8k-rpm tachometer flanked by Racetech gauges monitoring oil temperature and oil pressure. Gauges monitoring fuel pressure and coolant temperature are positioned to the driver’s right along with toggle switchgear, and brake bias gauges are situated to the driver’s left. A Hobbs meter in the engine bay shows 163 hours of running time.

 

The Chevrolet V8 was rebuilt by Savannah Race Engineering after the car’s delivery to the US with modifications including an alloy block and a displacement increase to 378ci. Features include dry-sump lubrication, twin oil coolers, Kinsler-sourced Lucas mechanical fuel injection with individual throttle bodies and intake trumpets, and MSD electronic ignition. According to the owner, the engine has seen approximately 15 hours of race usage and runs on 112-octane fuel.



The Hewland LG600 five-speed manual transaxle features a magnesium alloy case, interchangeable gears, a limited-slip differential, and a designated cooler, and it sends power to the rear wheels via CV joints. Adjustable independent suspension comprises unequal-length wishbones up front and upper links, lower wishbones, and radius rods at the rear. Adjustable coilover shock absorbers and anti-roll bars are utilized at each end.
