Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Practice Car

This Chevrolet Monte Carlo race car was reportedly built as practice car by Richard Childress Racing in the early 2000s and spent time in Mexico before being returned to the US and featured in a November 2024 episode of Tex Mex Motors on Netflix. It wears steel bodywork over a tube-frame chassis and has front cooling inlets and brake cooling ducts along with a side-exit exhaust and a split rear spoiler. It rides on an adjustable suspension and is further equipped with Wilwood disc brakes and 15″ Bassett wheels mounted with Goodyear Eagle slicks. Inside, a single Butlerbuilt racing seat is accompanied by a roll cage and a Hurst shifter. Power is provided by a 350ci small-block V8 mated to a Jerico four-speed manual transmission. Work performed on the show involved installing a replacement cowl panel and wrapping the exterior in black vinyl as well as rebuilding the Holley four-barrel carburetor, adjusting the valves, and replacing the spark plugs. Acquired by the current owner in 2023, this Monte Carlo practice car is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment in El Paso, Texas, with a bill of sale.



The car wears Chevrolet Monte Carlo–style steel bodywork over a tube-frame chassis. A replacement cowl panel was added and a black vinyl wrap was applied to the exterior as part of the work performed on the aforementioned November 2024 episode of Tex Mex Motors on Netflix. Further details include cooling inlets and brake cooling ducts up front along with a side-exit exhaust and an adjustable rear spoiler.

 

The 15″ Bassett wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle slicks. The car rides on an adjustable suspension, and stopping power is provided by Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners.



The cockpit is protected by a roll cage with door bars and features a Butlerbuilt racing seat trimmed in black cloth and vinyl. An older multi-point harness accompanies the seat, and a five-panel wink mirror is installed above.



A four-spoke steering wheel is paired with a floor-mounted Hurst shifter. Instrumentation consists of centrally mounted gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, and water temperature. The car is not equipped with an odometer or hour meter.

 

The small-block V8 engine is said to be a 350ci crate unit. It is equipped with a Moroso air cleaner, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and finned valve covers. The carburetor was rebuilt, the valves were adjusted, and the spark plugs were replaced as part of the work performed on the show.



Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Jerico four-speed manual transmission. The dual exhaust system is comprised of long-tube headers flowing into side-exit outlets ahead of the left-rear wheel.

The car does not have a VIN, is not legal for road use, and carries no title or registration. It is being sold on a bill of sale.

64wheels This author's likes: 415The underside of the hood has a Lowe’s logo which has been partially covered up by spray paint. That would track with this era RCR car as driver Mike Skinner was sponsored by Lowe’s at the time, so you know the hood is at least on par with its reported history. It would be cool to see what else is under that black paint.
