Default Performance Pads And Rotors?

ok what are the advantages of upgrading?

i want to keep brake dust to a minimum. dont the good pads have less brake dust or someshit?

stock rotors for my 88 teg are like 40 a piece for the front and like 50 a peice for the rear, hella expensive.

now powerslot/stop whatever is only 60 a piece for the front and 70 for the rears. so for 20$ more for each rotor i get cross drilled instead.

would i be stupid to waste the extra 80 on good ones or what?
i know it keeps temps down, but i read temps wont get hot enuff for it to matter or someshit.

any help is appreciated, just want to make the right decision

i would upgrade instead of replacing..always a good thing...power stop has been known (from what i know) to be good quality and performance...i would upgrade and cooler temps can only mean better braking...go ahead with those u wont regret it...im sure everyone has there own opinion im just stating mine....hope it helps u out..im on the verge of getting power stop for my honda and eclipse....good luck

Cross drilled in the front is ok,

You have to remeber MOST of your stopping power is in the front,
Unless you AUTO X,I wouldnt see why slotted or cross drilled is needed in the rear,Most people have them just for looks,

But thats cheap, cause for my car I was checking before and it was well over $100. each!

So where are you looking so I can have a look.

BTW your not really upgrading much for your braking system,

Im pretty sure you have a 1 piston set up,You can probally do a brake conversion to a bigger size,But I seen them go for $2-3k

Luckly my car has 4 piston calipers...muwhahahaha :o

crossed drilling is for looks.. Its not going to help u stop any better.
Power stop does have a good reputation. I'd ask a power stop sales rep about there cross drilled rotors cracking and see if there is a guarentee on them or something.

Pads, caliper type & number of pistons and swept area are the largest factors in stopping.

I had good really good results with the following upgrade to my OE WRX braking system:

Stainless Steel Brake Lines
AXXIS Ultimates
OE Rotors (cross drilled/slotted is not going to do anything for you)
Synt Brake Fluid Flush

The Ultimates do dust crazy but no noise. I also tried the AXXIS Metal Master which I was also happy with but the Ultimates where a very noticable upgrade. The Metal Masters didn't dust as much but seemed to more difficult to clean the dust off the rims.

Cross drilled rotors will fatigue and crack. I wouldn't buy cross drilled rotors unless they are cast as cross drilled. Porsche does this on their cars.

Personally, I like slotted rotors, as the "stuff" is spun into the channels and then to the end of the rotor. I have never had a slotted rotor crack. I also like a softer pad/dustier pad. Ferodo makes a really sticky yet heat resistant pad.

My current set-up is

ss brake lines
Velocity slotted rotors
Ferodo pads
ATE Super Blue fluid

Because this is a street car, I would change the fluid, buy stock rotors and spend the extra cash on better pads.
