Default Can the RX7 community afford a production opensource RX7 without Mazda?

I am a big fan of all three Mazda RX7s. I have always said that the FD is the sexist thing to ever leave Japan. After Mazda discontinued the RX7 I and many other enthusiasts became disappointed. I never liked the length and height of the RX8, but its suspension is something very special. Unfortunately, the RX8 was also under powered. The RX8's front and rear suspension under a space frame chassis, powered by a aftermarket 4 rotor engine could keep a community alive. And Support a OpenSource SuperCar,.....MayBe I am dreaming lol..., But I am a metal Fabricator and have been part of many race car builds over the years. Carol Shelby had a more difficult time developing the Cobra. In essence building the car is easy.
I have a long time relationship with Rolex cup champion RX7 driver Cam Worth from Pettit Racing. Since Mazda discontinued the rotary line of cars in 2012, I feel as if the loyal enthusiasts and existing rotary engine part manufactures have the ability to support a 4 rotor OpenSource RX7 in the near future.
After Carol Shelby took a British Manufacture A.C. Ace body and chassis and powered it by a Ford truck engine a new opensource community was born. You can still buy enough opensource parts to build that same car today. Google The Shelby Cobra if you don't know the history.
Can we still do that kind of professional opensource car building today?

If you can get Mathew Inman of the Oatmeal involved, I'd say yes.....with theses caveats

-the 4 rotor idea is too expensive and complicated to produce to be a tenable design
-the RX-8 had plenty of power what it needed was lightness and 2 less seats to be a sports car
-while Mazda is not producing any more new rotary engines they are still making parts, there is a Renesis remanufacturing facilty just outside of Richmond,VA
-AND Mazda still holds the patent on the Wankel engine design.

Has this idea been posted on RX7Club.com?

Q: RX8 doner with a space frame chassis, who does such things?
A: Factory Five Racing, that's who. https://www.factoryfive.com/
take a close look at their 818, they've got a fastback hardtop coming out this summer, there are several of us talking about dropping a renesis in that.
You get a 100 people willing to preorder a chassis for a new RX7 and talk to Dave Smith (the owner of FFR) I'd be surprised if he said no.
They have several chassis to chose from, 3 FR and 2 MR.

since they're in YOUR area I'd add Brunton Stalker Stalker High Performance Kit Cars: the Stalker M-Spec, XL, AXR and Classic R to the list of people to talk to about producing such a kit.

Also a modified Exocet kit may be another option and at least people to talk to.
