Default Tuners...when?

Im wondering when the term and identifaction of TUNERS came into being..

Im way older then most of you whipper-snappers but still enjoying the perfromance lifestyle with my trikes and Volksrods.

I had a 175hp 5speed in an early Rabbit in the late 70s that was way quick but totally sleeper looking. But we didnt call cars like that a tuner.

We call VW modifers volksrodderes...would you call a Honda modifier a Hondarodder? TROY

Im pretty sure the term tuner comes from the method of modifying and refining a cars performance called, tuning. Most commonly associated with, but not limited to, imports. Probably came into general use in the 70s or 80s in Japan.

My guess is the "import" "tuner" cars being EFI, most "old school" hotrodders dismissed EFI power as being obtained through a simple "tune".

Yes, but nissans, 240s in particular, are especially good at being effortlessly gay.
