Default What's happened to the car scene?

Now, this isn't a bitching or ranting thread, I'm just curious to why you all think it evolved the way it did. I remember growing up and around when I got my first car, street racing and highway pulls was very prevalent. I'd heard stories of people faking a crash on the highway then a group of cars would go a 1/4 mile up and start doing pulls from a stop.

The scene changed a few times to doing whatever else, but now a days all I see is hellaflush cars that are a half inch off the ground driving slower than an 80 year old woman leaving church on a Sunday afternoon. Even with the car guys i hang out with who all own S2000's it isn't very different. Recently on another board I just saw that over half the people in town are now a few inches off the ground and none of them do any real driving anymore. No one really looks for a good curvy road or does anything close to the limit type of driving, hell only a couple of them even go to the track.

One guy was giving me crap because my car is at a stock height. I laughed and said lets take it to the "track" and he didn't even do a single hard lap, because when he hit a manhole cover mid turn his super stiff suspension would shake the car so hard he's lose traction if he was going flat out. But my fender gap is obviously the problem?! Effectively, he took an amazing handling car, and ruined it for the sake of it looking subjectively better.

For the tl:dr croud here's some cliffs:

-Wondering why the car scene went from actual racing, to having slammed cars and talking in parking lots all night
-Someone was talking shit because I have a stock fender gap, so we went to a track, and he couldn't drive because his slammed car on worse then stock coilovers couldn't take a minimal bump without him losing control.

I thought I'd share today, as I'm bored at work, maybe I should just suck it up, buy some tires, and head down to Sebring soon.

edit: I'm not against the hellaflush crowd either, but I just think it's stupid to take a car like an s2000 and do that to it. To me it's the same as taking a viper and making it untrackable because of body mods.

Thats because skreetracing and drag racing and all forms of racing are dying out around here. Areas are more developed with more cops and more people around to hassle racers, getting popped racing is expensive and damaging, and the cost of owning a souped up car keeps going up as oil prices skyrocket.

Its cheaper for these kids to just be ricers and slap new body parts on their car to buy into whatever the latest fad is.

Now, go out to somewhere like Lakeland and race with them boys? You'll get plenty of drags. Those hicks still line up, spray VHT on their tires, and drag like it should be. Because they're still out in the middle of nowhere. But out there, you don't see the ricers. Just racers.

I get that it can be expensive and what not, but unless you're retarded about where you do things or incriminate yourself then it's no more expensive then ricing your car out. Drop 2-3 grand in wheels/tires, alignments, and suspension mods. Not to mention when you have to fix stuff because you tore your bumper off because there was a pebble in the road. Hell one of the spots we used to frequent outside of Jax got nailed by the police a few months back. There were 4 of us there and about 10 cop cars showed up, they were pretty irate about everything. But since they didn't see us in the act, and we kept our mouths shut, they had to let us leave without anything (two guys got a written warning for something, even though the cop saw them driving the speed limit).

I guess I need to move to the boonies, there's better roads in the country side anyway.

edit: And some of these guys running like 5 degrees negative camber eat tires up in a month or two by driving normally, let alone pushing the limits of adhesion.

edit edit: Here's a bit of a rant. I'm also sick of every dumb ass out there with a lowered car going out and buying a SLR camera and taking a bazillion pictures of their car, and then tagging it with initials or a forum name. It's no better then some hot skank walking around with an 80's camera and saying she's a great photographer because she can take a black and white of me pounding her and calling it provocative art. Fuck that. No offense to you hedge, as from what I've seen you actually try to take original pictures. I'm talking about the guys who bring their car to the exact same spot as they see other cars in, and taking the same pics. BLAH.

LOL none taken. I don't just shoot my car with my camera. I do other shit as well, and I HATE, HATE, HATE, using spots that other people have already done. Good thing I'm in Atlanta. hahah

idk about these hard parker types. i build my car focused primarily on how it is performing on the track. every modification i make is to provide more steering angle, less roll, and better weight transfer. i dont think people understand how in depth track driving is. theres too many fan boy hard parking shit talkers out now-a-days.

Hey fuck you homo!! I'm a fucking badass because I scrape my oil pan twice a day and need a new one every week. I'm also a fucking badass because I tear my front bumper off every week when I go over a bump in the road. You should be jealous you're not as cool as me driving such a low car needing new tires every week. SO STFU because you'll never understand the "hardparking" lifestyle. Loser.

but anyway, exactly! i fucking hate these hardparking faggots. they build their shit just to talk shit. fuck em. i really wish there were more people out there that actually did shit with their cars instead of running their cum-catchers.

as far as street racing is concerned, its too expensive and just too dangerous with the retards out today. anybody remember the CCC accident a few months back? fucking stupid fucks.

There is no street racing here in ATL. You have to drive WAY the fuck out to bum-fuck to find it. It's a bunch of hard parking hella flush people here. Which I don't mind for some reason because they seem to talk less shit here than other places. Go figure. However, I don't understand how they drive anywhere in this city. The roads are horrendous with pot holes, bumps, and anything else you can think of. My car scrapes going into my apartment complex, and mine's not even technically "low".
