Exact reason I got rid of my Evo. Tired of the "scene" or what's left of it. Never forget when I had my 2G DSM. I would always be able to find races when I was driving late at night, sometimes non-stop. Eventually got tired of modding, tired of hearing stupid fucks that can't even do an oil change talk shit about how their XXX hp car will walk mine.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to drift, but the lack of support is what's going to kill it more than anything.
damn see? thats what i mean. people dont understand how graceful you actually have to be with drifting. it is no where near as easy as people think. to a drifter, it is totally worth it to waste gas and tires. to a spectator, its a waste of time...

16 year olds with licenses. Ignorant, arrogant, and for the most part uneducated. And every one of them thinks they run shit.

I don't have much to add to this discussion. When the scene you miss was just getting started I was asking what the hell happened to the car scene, lol.

its still around. it was huge when i was younger and now nothing like it was....think of the age range of the street racers? 16-mid 20's. hopefully this age range got smarter, plus for a while it was nothing but Spanish/ Hispanic people with riced out slow ass cars which now seem to make up a majority of the street bike Saturday night rides now(also which i don't want to bother with anymore just because of the b/s drama of a nice night out). its stupid to race on the streets, too dangerous and if you get caught its way too much trouble bye bye car/ license. i got caught once when i was younger and the officer said " you kept up pretty good" (giving i was driving a crappy basically stock neon a the time lol) today its instant NTA citation and if your lucky they wont impound your car..im pretty glad the fad died out now i can go into tampa on the causeway and not worry about having some retard hitting my in an un-insured pos

True gear heads don't care about the "scene", social aspect, or what so-n-so is doing to their ride, they just love motoring. For awhile there it was the fashionable thing to do, it was on TV, the newspapers, and as noted, the movies. The economic collapse in 08 changed public perception of the automobile and eroded the public's expendable funds which facilitated the the move to smaller, more economical vehicles. In effect, it rooted out everyone that didn't really love the hobby, and forced out those who couldn't hang on financially. In my opinion, we're all better off.

It is true, the real gear heads will motor on, the rest will fall away....but..I know too many people who I would still consider real gear heads who put their families first with the little money they have in this economy we have now. They still love their cars and still do hit the streets, but they are a lot less risky then they were, for many of the reasons I mentioned before.
As far as real motor heads not caring about the scene, I agree and don't. I agree one should not let others influence them with what they want or with what is trendy but on the other hand it is a whole lot funner and motivating to be involved with others of like mind. It breeds competition and furthers our rides. If left alone most would only go so far and if there is no scene to race or show in...gets kind of stale. I would still work on my car if nobody ever saw it, but it is better to show that work to others once done. That is part of the reason why we are all on here. I think it will all make those who are really into it focus on their cars quality more and the scene will build back up again, in a better quality way
