Default Need advice on engine problem

I have an 01 Eclipse spyder GT. It has the 3.0 V6. It also has massive oil leak/leaks. I need to know what exactly could be done to fix the problem. I have no idea where the leaks are and wondering what a shop would typically do if i take it to a mechanic? Will they pull the motor and go from there? A friend said they would try something along the lines of cleaning the motor as best as possible and putting a type of dye through the motor to find all the leaks. I know that labor will kill me depending on the shop but what kind of down time and money am i looking at spending? Sorry for all the questions just bit off more then i could chew with this car. Thanks for any advice yall can give.

They're not gonna pull the motor to find a oil leak. Check the valve cover and oil pan first and if it's that. If your car can't make it to a shop cause it leaks too much oil, look online for mechanics that will come to you.

Oh know i drive the car every day have to put a quart in it about once every 3 weeks if that gives u any idea of the leaks. Sorry moto thats a little far its my only source of transpo and my parents aren't gonna drive me that far. Yea i figured they wouldn't pull the motor but how much does the dye thing cost?

could be something very simple, oil pressure sending unit, valve covers, oil filter adapter. clean the engine with a degreaserer or purple power then run it and watch. see where the oil is dripping from or accumulating and trace it to the source or sources. good luck

I had some work done on it recently and had the valve cover gasket replaced. I cant see any leak'm thinking its gonna be on the backside of the valve cover, the oil pan or the oil filter itself possibly. I want a shop that is dependable and i can get answers from. If i can't find anyone around here moto i mite make the drive out there or if u know of anyone around here thats dependable plz let me know. I have taken my cars to shops that either weren't dependable or coudn't answer a phone.

sorry man, I dont have anyone close to you I could recommend
if you decide to come this way I would be happy to make you an appt. where you can wait and possibly have it fixed quickly if something easy, so you dont have to leave it. this way you can be right there to see and learn and be confident that you arent getting the run around
