Thinking of getting a new exhaust for my car but before I do anything, TR members can you list the positive and negative effects of straight piping and ditching the cat on your car

Positive: More hp
Negative: Loud and I imagine a Beratta would sound like shit.

straight pipes do NOT always add hp. When i went from mufflers to just pipes on my mustang i lost 5hp and got 15ftlbs. Not saying your going to lose or gain anything. If you really want to see what its going to sound like just unbolt your cat from your down pipe and start it. If you do go straight pipe....you can always add muffler(s) later. But if i were you and if its your DD i wouldnt. not worth the little power you might get. get a nice magnaflow muffler and some 2.5 pipe, im sure your stock pipes arnt 2.5inch. Then you'll have a littler more power(maybe) but it will sound much better then just pipe. thats what i would do. Its your car though, do what you want and fuck the haters.

pros = a more free flowing exhaust.

cons = going to be a bit louder and you'll be killing baby seals (Ask Gore)

if you're just going to straight pipe the cat, then you shouldn't get too much of an increase in volume. If you are going to straight pipe from the down pipe back, then you're going to be stupid loud and we'll all hate you.

You might get a CEL depending on how your emissions is set up.

do some research on what makes for a good exhaust system.
ignore all of that crap about needing back pressure and all of that. That's just bullshit from someone that doesn't really know what they are talking about.

And the only reasons you would loose power is if A) your ecu is set up to read the emissions levels (ie- obd2) and compensates for it by adjusting the fuel and or spark. OR B) you set your exhaust up wrong like a majority of people do and probably have way too big of a pipe on which can hurt performance more than too small of a pipe. OR C) you didn't get on the dyno right before you put your exhaust on so you don't really know what your car was putting down so based off of the internet says your car "should" put down stock, you lost some power when in fact, you probably gained a couple, or at the very least, broke even because you were putting down far less power than you think you were.

you need things like back pressure to maintain some intake/exhaust velocity. im sure you already have some dryer hose/autozone cone filter intake setup, combined with a straight pipe your car would lose all low end power and sound like 9 year old after they ate 15 lbs of taco bell.

I cant think of any pros for straight pipes on a Beretta, unless you really want your car to sound like ass.

thats the way it was on may stang. it was mostly stock. before i took the mufflers off i had 315tq to the wheels (dyno'd) and after i had 330tq to the wheels (on the same dyno about a week later) I cant remember the hp though becasue at the time i was more interested in TQ. I could try to find the dyno charts though.

and to the guy that says you dont need back pressure, that depends on the engine and how your trying to make power (low end VS high end) but in no way is it bullshit.
