I was thinking about stripping it down, polishing it up and then using some of this stuff to protect it from oxidization.

VHT-SP145 GLOSS CLEAR COAT High-Temperature Engine Enamel Gloss

Not too positive about how well that would hold up around areas like the exhaust manifold though.
that VHT stuff holds up decently well. I had a bright orange exhaust manifold for about 2 years. only places it had issues was where it got banged up.

Awesome...that was exactly what I was hoping to hear...Think I'm just going to use VHT gloss clear coat on the stripped and polished parts and leave it at that...seems slightly easier to maintain. Thanks again for all your input guys.

Edit: I wasnt aware of clear powder coat btw. I thought it was naturally tinted to some degree like many epoxy type coatings (yellowish or just flat out colored)...you wouldnt happen to have a rough idea of cost for powder coating on something like the block and manifold would you?

I don't know if you can really powdercoat a block or head, or would want to, even if it was aluminum. With a block and head you're only going to get so far, maybe polishing or painting. Powdercoating an intake manifold, valve cover, maybe a timing cover, and various odds and ends will look nice. Exhaust manifolds would get some heat coating (Swain's White Lightning is ten times better than that Jet Hot stuff that is super thin).

Powdercoating will vary on who does it and how big it is. Wheels generally cost $50-100 to PC, also depends on what type of color you're getting.

Good to know, I think my block is iron if I'm not mistaken. The head and valve cover is my primary concern really. My intake and exhaust manifolds are both polished T606 Stainless Steel (Magnus and Megan Racing respectively) along with the spark plug cover on the valve cover...it's JM Fab polished aluminum. as well as JM Fab oil catch can, coil bracket, radiator overflow tank, and the radiator is blackworks aluminum...that's why I'm trying to get the old crappy stock look off the other stuff lol
