If you don't even have the money to make it go faster, then why cut up the car and depreciate its's value even more??? How much weight will you actually save and will it make a difference in real world driving??? An easier way to lighten it up would be to have a midget drive it for you!!!
Alan, Relocate the Battery to the trunk, It will make a much bigger difference in weight balance than fucking up your hood.

I think all of this is a little extreme! I mean why cut the hood. I understand that you want a light car, but come on, it's an everyday driver right? Why not just cruise the street and look good, rather than cut holes in the hood!!!!

Allegedly you can run a seperate positive line from the battery to the ECU to fix this problem. Only a couple people have done it, and I haven't been able to establish exactly who did it and how it is done.

Moving weight lower and to the rear is the best thing to do. Check out this article....He's talking about roundy round cars, but there is some good info in there.
I cut the hood bracing out of the hood on my Scirocco. It didn't make a big difference....6lbs maybe. I just got a fiberglass hood, and it's 18lbs lighter than than the stripped metal hood. I wouldn't cut your hood. You would probably be better off getting a 12 pound battery....didn't you post that thread a while back.
Patrick
How about I just take the motor out? THe damn thing is about useless anyways.
Well I just found out that Fiber Images makes a 7lb carbon fiber hood for the Focus. Thats alot lighter than some of the other carbon fiber hoods on the market for the Focus, so it just may be worth the money NOT to have to pin my hood down. If I decide to spend money on this, I need to find a local place to get me a discount. No way in hell I'd pay $400+ for this. :o
