Default European cars...

So, what makes a car European? Obviously, if you were to go to Europe and buy a VW, it is a European car. How about the Ford Escort? It originated in Europe, gained popularity, and was introduced into the US in the 80s. However, Ford is still an american company. If A civic was produced in Australia, it wouldn't be an Australian car.

The Focus also originated in Europe, with sales beginning a year before the US saw this car.

Also, on the off chance the Focus / Escort COULD be considered a Euro car, would that make the US versions of them Euro?

This may seem like a question for a Focus forum. However, the Focus forums are full of jackasses who think that putting the Euro bumper on their car makes it European.

So what do you guys think?

From what I've read there is quite a difference between the euro-foci and its domestic counterpart.

Ford isn't just a US company any more after all, they have been a multi-national comp for over a half a century now. Henry Ford was even complicit in supporting hitler and nazi germany after all, even after we were at war with them. Then again he was a big business facist and an anti-semite so you can see why he did such a thing, but one of the great things about being a multinational millionair like Ford and the Rockefellars is you can get away with Treason scott free.

But back on the subject at hand, if its made in europe, its a european car.

One might be able to argue if its like a european model or has european parts, its european, but that's about as lame as the kids who call their crappy S13s Silvias, lol.

Now if a civic was made in Austrialia, it would be an austrailian car, but they don't so that's not a valid case.

Both of my cars were made in europe, so they are both european. Let the poseurs say what they want, but a rose by any other name . . . .

Just cause ford stole all of Volvo's platforms to build their US cars on after they bought them out doesn't make their entire US line european after all.

IMO, if a car is designed in europe and the model that is sold in the US is not much different that the EDM version, then i would consider it a european car, even if its made somewhere else

So, what about the Escort/Focus? The shitty US version is Euro because it is similar to the European version? I just can't accept that. I think that when they modified it to be US-spec, they made is a US car.

i dont know anything about euro/US focus, in fact i dont know anything about focus' in general

if the euro and US have different drivetrains or body panels then i would consider them different.

obviously europe has different road specs than the US, so any of those difference wouldn't count, IMO
