Default quick question

would installing a symtech fcd basically bypass a shitty map sensor? I have an N/A car and i know thats what it is made for, but i'm not boosting and don't plan on boosting, but i can pick one up for 30 bucks BNIB when my map sensor is $60 +tax brand new.

any input would help. thanks

I fail to see how a fuel cut defender is going to help your map sensor issue. Considering you would need a working MAP sensor for the FCD to work correctly.

I don't condone the use of one of those things either way

i have no clue man. i figured i'd need a working map sensor. but my friend (the one gonna sell it to me) said it basically replaces the signal getting sent to the stock ecm and that reguardless of if my map sensor works correctly or not the fcd will tell the ecu i have "perfect" perfect pressure according to what the ecu thinks i should have. something along those lines, but i don't know thats why i'm asking for input lol but i'm gonna tell him that if it doesn't work i want my money back either way lol

If he's your friend then just go over his house or he goes over your house and you try it out on the car. If it works your good to go if it doesn't then don't buy it. Why purchase it to find out it doesn't work and go through the hassle of getting your money back ? He's your friend he should understand.

i'll probably do that. but the only thing that blows. is that my map sensor isn't completely shot. i can still drive with it, it's just every once in awhile it messes up horribly or if i drive for awhile lol
so i don't wanna put that on my car and think it's working and then an hour or two later it mess up. so i'd want to give him the money up front. just how i am lol. but the input i'm getting from people off the site are saying don't do it cause the fcd will only work or make a differance if i'm in possitive vac. which i wont be on account of my not having a turbo

Well your ECM/ECU works by a MAP based system. The MAP sensor sees a certain PSI or inHg and takes into account your throttle percentage via a TPS and a few other sensors. Then the ECU/ECM knows exactly how much fuel, and how much timing is required. If the MAP doesn't work correctly, I dont understand how a FCD will help.

FCD's also really work by NOT allowing the ECU/ECM to cut fuel when it sees boost, that's about all they do .

You better recheck who you consider your "friends".

thanks for the info. and just cause he doesn't know what he talking about doesn't mean he shouldn't be my friend. and i told him all this and he didn't know this is exactly how an fcd worked anyways lol. he's not familiar with boost lol

decided i'm not gonna get it anyways and i'm just gonna fork out for the map sensor. will need replaced reguardless. even if this theory worked i couldn't run the thing on the car forever lol

thanks again guys

If you have the money to purchase this from your friend then I would bet you have the money to go to a local pull it junk yard place and find one for your vehicle. Easy fix.
