Car and Driver recently tested the car and got a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds, a 0-100 mph (160 km/h) time of 7.6 seconds and a Quarter Mile-time of 11.5 seconds at 126 mph (203 km/h). Dodge's claims for top speed are 197 mph (317 km/h) and 202 mph (325 km/h), for the Roadster and Coupe respectively. Car and Driver also tested the Viper's track performance, and managed a fast sub 3 minute lap time around Virginia International Raceway. The Viper's time, despite hot weather, was faster than the Corvette Zo6, Ford GT, Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 GT3, Audi R8, and other such cars. According to Car and Driver and Motor Trend, the car's slightly adjusted suspension setup and new differential gave it cornering ability as sharp as before with even better control, feedback, and response.

I was listing the lap times from their over all records. The price is what matters. He isn't looking at getting a NEW viper either, so I don't see where you quoting stuff about the new viper is relevant to this conversation. He is looking at used. FACTS ARE FACTS.... if he has $45k to spend, what he will get for the money a used 'vette would be faster.

Vipers have always appealed to me, I love the way they look. Ive had nice cars, Rx7, Mustang, S2000 and I Think I want to move up a class or two into the Viper. I dont think Ill get a vette till im 50 .

Looks are not a good reason to buy a Viper but it's up to you. A warning though, if you get one and start whining about wanting paddle shifters, TC and cupholders the Viper boards will light up.

 

Ture...I have watched Chuck drive both at 145MPH down the front stretch at Sebring as well as ridden along with multiple variations of the Vette ( ZO6 included) and ridden along in multiple versions of the Vipers at Sebring with them. The Viper is NOT a Vette at all. They produce Similar lap times, however the Viper is a MUCH different feel and ride.


Preference for one or the other has been beaten to death, but they are NOT the same cars.

And for the Record, I would buy a 10 year old Viper over any Vette other than a ZR1...but not for that price...
