Patching Z Rated Tires

So they say you shouldnt patch z rated tires. Is this because of liability reasons for tires that are designed to reach speeds in excess of 149mph or does it have something to do with the construction of the tire and it not holding air with a patch? And please no dumb asses who respond with just a Youre not supposed to patch z rated tires cause Ive already heard that before I want to know why you arent supposed to patch them.
If you are using these tires on the street and the hole is not near or on the sidewall you should be fine.
If the hole is near the sidewall or if you run in any type of track events I would just go ahead and get yourself some new tires. I usually try to replace all 4 tires at the same time its pretty ghetto to have tires with various thread wear but Im a snob. If you are running track events I would assume you would be running with R compound and not some wimpy street tires.
I patched my street tires w/o any concerns and like I said Im a snob. I dont do crazy stuff with my car on the street or drive over 100mph.

If you dont plan on running 149 mph go ahead and patch it. Shit I have like 3 plugs right now but I never go over like 110.

ive drove patched tires at over 150mph before
a patch isnt all that bad the worst thing that would happen would be the air leaking out slowly this would not cause you to wreck....
id patchem up and race em

Dont patch it plug it. Get the galvanized rubber plug kit at a autoparts store or Wal-Mart. Do it yourself. Kit costs like $4 bucks and is good for several repairs. I have Yokohama AVS Intermediates I think they are V-rated. Ive run em at auto-x events with one of the tires plugged so far so good. No leakage. Infact I got a screw stuck in one this week I plugged it. And Im racing on it on the 28th. Hope it holds. If not THEN Ill buy new tires.

It doesnt look like anyone has really addressed his question.... ALL radial tires not just Z rated have plys of steel meesh and polyester making a carcus. when a nail or other object punctures the tire it tears the carcus causing a week spot in the tire. If you do not drive the car hard such as racing autox roadracing 100mph+ speeds or extreme braking you should be OK to patch it as long as the hole is not near the sidewall. I would go to Sears or Tire Kingdon or any place that has patch-plugs they remove the tire from the rim and put a plug that has a patch built onto the buttom of it to assure leak free and tear free pluging.
