Is there such thing as a FWD Sports Car?
I like the term "Sport Compact Car" for sporty FWD layouts.
I do believe to really be considered a true sports car it would have to be a 2 door rwd vehicle with decent power and handling. Like a corvette, Lotus Exige, 350/370z, M3, Supra, Rx7 etc.
But to those who say it MUST be rwd, what about a Porsche Carerra 4s?

lrn2definition.
sports car=car make and model commonly used in motorsports, this does not apply to individual cars, just because you track your mom's panel wagon doesn't make it a sports car.
so is the car commonly used in motorsports? if yes then it is a sports car. if no, then it is not.

Burgy, You shouldn't take what I seriously since 99.9% of the time I just fucking with people on TR just so they will argue with me.
Im not justifying CRX's as sportscar, My CRX will out perform your car on the track though.

The Eclipse is a sport compact the is derived from a sports car, the Lancer Evo. Early eclipses shared the 4G63 and AWD layout of EVO's. While not true sport cars, early Eclipses clearly showed their sport car heritage. Now it can be argued that AWD is not fit for sport cars, but that argument dismisses the entire family of rally cars as not being sport cars. However, new eclipses are simply econo boxes with a manual gear box. Mitsubishi is retarded for not putting the Rally Art Eclipse Concept into production.
By Tampa Racing logic most of the world's frieght is delivered by SPORTS CARS!!!!!!!!!!! Check out the link below

I can't find the magazine I read this in, but it made perfect sense. Regular cars are like wine. They are practical, nutritional, and good for you. It is a regular staple you have with many meals in various cultures around the world. Sports cars are like champagne. It serves no practical purpose, it is just bubbly and fun. You pull it out when you are looking to celebrate or have a good time.
FWD is practical. It is the red wine of cars. Everybody makes front wheel drive cars because they are cheaper to make. Just pile everything up by the engine so that you don't have to waste money on more parts. FWD is also not very fun. Your front wheels are doing all of the steering, all of the accelerating, and most of the braking. You can't handle all those job really well. Something will get sacrificed. Give it too much gas into a turn and you will understeer. Few things in this world are more boring than understeer (wheel hop is worse....a problem that plagues FWD cars).
Cars like the Civic SI, integra Type R, cobalt SS, VW GTI, and others are all fun...but not sports cars. You can have a blast driving them, but in the end they are still practical cars that you can haul your friends and stuff in.
The term sports car has been butchered for a very long time. They even have the balls to call a Maxima a four door Sports Car!
Love your car, have fun with it, but don't try to make it something it isn't. I actually prefer sporty cars over sports cars most of the time....because they make more sense. I loved my CTS-V. It Sounded mean, was really fast, handled well, and was very practical. I could pick up three friends and their luggage at the airport and enjoy the ride home in my spacious and luxurious car or I could tear around a track enjoying the thrill of 400HP 400FTLBS of torque and the throttle induced oversteer that gives you huge smiles. My S2000 on the other hand is a sports car. There is nothing practical about it. I can't take more than one person in it, It is uncomfortable on long rides, I can't carry much luggage, and I lack many creature comforts. It serves no purpose but to put a huge smile on my face any chance I get to rev it up and tear around turns. Enjoy what you have and don't get caught up in marketing hype.

Matt why are you bringing me into this?! This was not about my car specifically! It was about Luis' asshat comment that he couldn't back with factual knowledge or trivia....

Im still stuck on the people who think this below:
"Sportscars classify FR cars only."

I have respect for all cars and I understand FR cars ARE fun but comeon'!
You gotta admit some "sporty" FF cars CAN be labeled under sportscars! same fucking thing.. why do insurance companies label them so?
I guess everyone has an assbackwords "opinion"...
I mean we aren't taking about high-end super sportscars here.
No it's, "If it doesn't have a turbo 6, V8 or larger with a six speed gear box and rear wheel or AWD drive it's garbage."
This could never even be attempted in a FF version of the same vehicle, which is definitely not a sports car. It's not that FR vehicles are fun, it's that they have proper weight distribution. FF on the other hand, are all nose heavy vehicles, thus corner like shit.
