This has turned into a debate about what is a REAL sports car. Okay, time to put it all to bed. Most of you are dead wrong. The following are some examples of what a REAL sports car is all about. If a car doesn't embody the spirit of a car like these pictured below, then it is most likely not a sports car.

Doesn't mean that is has to be old to be a sports car, some modern cars still hold true to the spirit of the originals above. Cars like the Miata, Corvette, Viper, Elise, & 370Z. They still have a form that follows their sporting function. Where the emphasis of it's design is on a style and performance over all others. If it doesn't raise your heart rate just looking at it, it's probably not a sports car. I do believe there are some (though few) FWD sportscars, but any econobox, like a Sentra or a Civic isn't one, nor could ever be one. No matter how fast they are, they are always econobox cars first and foremost and were never intended to stir the soul.

Why do people care if there FWD isnt a sports car. You don't need a sports car to have fun. drive fast, or whatever you wanna do.

I have a sports car, even though its fun to drive, its by no means comfortable/practical. I have 2 seats, a trunk that can barely hold anything, and its probably one of the lowest stock-height cars on the ground. On the flip side, I have 275 hp, RWD, LSD, 6 gears, BMW M brakes, BMW M suspension, and the ability to out-corner almost any stock ''sports'' car, that isn't considered a super car or exotic car.

Sounds good, how do you feel useing it on a DD basis? Prefer something else? I would prefer to have two cars, of course, my z3, and sure a civic for dd.

But cant so...

I guess you can turn a fit into a "sports car".

rwd "car"
low center of gravity
manual transmission (I'd even argue if they offered it in an auto, like the vette)
2 seats or less.

Anything else is not a sports car.

I just went thru 17 pages of this nonsense

Most FWD owners say "yes" FWD can be a sports car

Most people that own at least one RWD car said "no"

I love how people try to defend what they have on the internet. Kind of like Glock vs. Springfield debate or 9mm vs. 45 ACP debate...if you have a 9 you say it's big enough and if you have a .45 you make fun of puny 9 mm round

I've owned plenty of cars in my lifetime and I love how RWD car feels when you exit the corner under full power and gets slightly sideways....I love that feeling of control. And I love that when VTEC kicks in front wheels do not slide to the outside of apex.

My opinion? Term "sports car" is so washed out and abused that it no longer represents what it used to.
