The Florida State Fair Grounds were where Tampa-U's stadium now is.
On North Boulevard. They held sprint car races up into the 70's.

Bud Sherk Lives on Bayshore and and sponsored his son Buddy racing sports cars
partnered with Bobby Diehl before Buddy Sherk became a tele-avangelist.
Bobby Diehl was racing Craftsman-style trucks a few years ago.

Years ago I thought that Jack Baldwins Safe-Way driving school was run by a 65 year old guy.........until I saw an old photo in his office from when he was at Kennedy and Macdill and the cars were fat fendered ones from
the 40's! In the 70's Jack Baldwin sponsored his son to race formula cars in a European series, but his son started out racing a Cortina with cut springs, in SCCA on
the East Coast at an old abandoned airport.....Melborn? Sebastian?

Wards was where Best Buy and Walmart now are next to the interstate.

That MacDonalds is still in the same place on Dale Mabry.-Bob

Cool pics. It's interesting to see familiar places as they were in the past. I like the view these photos give on the local car culture in the early days.
