Default help with problem

I was driving my 02 Audi Roadster Quattro (was 225) today and just as I was starting out from a light I heard a loud bang. Instantly my power dropped and my turbo whistle increased. I am thinking I cracked the turbo. I am not consuming oil or water so I know its not a head gasket issue. I had a friend follow me home and he says whenever I shifted there was a large puff of grey smoke. I am thinking to much gas, the engine is trying to compensate for a blown turbo, dumping extra fuel, and its burning in the exhaust. I am correct in what I am thinking? And if so, can anyone suggest a good place to take it to get it fixed. Or should i do a stage 1 or 2 upgrade with a front mount? I also have this in the vw/audi section. thanx

Check your intercooler piping, also vacuum lines.

If they check out to be fine, gray smoke would be a mix of white(coolant) and black(unburnt fuel) smoke.

I'd go with a turbo upgrade of some sort, whatever stage that may be with Audi's.

sounds like you blew off an intercooler pipe. Open the hood and look around

checked all pipes, they are good. drove it a little, coolant level did not move. i say gray smoke but was more like black smoke thinned out by the exhaust. i found fixx tuning in p park and european tuning in st pete. any one know if they are good? i would take it to a dealer but i all ready have some stuff done to it and am kinda taking this as an opportunity to do a little more.

i highly doubt a diverter valve would have dropped off since it sits on the top of your engine and is connected by hoses that are about the size of your pinky finger. Like john said it sounds like your intercooler piping. Check all the piping and follow it all the way in and out of your intercooler. Unless you have an aftermarker FMIC your intercooler will be right in front of your passenger side tire in the fender.

As far as upgrading i say go for it you can never have enough power. If you want a quality setup that will keep your car super reliable check out APR Tuning. I have the 1.8t with their Stage 3+ setup putting 360 horse on the ground with pump gas. I will admit they are not the cheapest but are one of the best for vw/audi/porsche and the customer support is absolutly top notch.

is your check engine light on?

this is what your diverter looks like its about 2 inches tall by about 3 inches wide.... i dont think that would have made the loud bang your wife said she heard.

i looked at the apr and forge front mount kits. i all ready have a ko4 hybrid upgrade, stage one flash, and 3" straight exhaust (by by cat!!), and a nice muffler. good for 275 at all four wheels now that i think about it i checked all piping but did not check the forge silicon pipe directly off of the turbo, i just checked the end that connects to the alum pipe. i did notice that part felt soft. thanks guys.

whether it was or not i would get the car scanned asap. If you cant get with someone with a vag-com you can always scan it with a universal obd2 scanner. Then go from there.
