Lucky break for Hamilton I guess. Though I really doubt Kubica could have challenged for the lead, Button had a significant gap on Vettel by that time, and his tires hadn't yet started to grain.

i don't know, 4 laps to go was a long time. the softs fall off pretty quickly(massa pitted earlier than expected because his softs fell off earlier than he expected, also it was colder towards the end fo the race), it's heresay at this point, but a challenge would have been possible imo.

yeah! i'm happy we have possibly 6 teams in the hunt(ferrari and mclaren will figure something out) but i'm thinking bmw is in really good position being this fast without the controv. diffuser.

Kubica could have just stayed out and left room for Vettel since HE was passing Vettel and not the other way around. His statement about having a faster car is proof. If he stays wide he gets by through the next corner and is off and running in an attempt to track down Button! He may have been able to do it to since the softs were going off after about 5 laps.

I like Kubica, but he should have been smarter at that point.

Well when you watch the replays, he isn't really very far from the outside rumble strip, he couldn't have given him much more room. I think he just underestimated Vettel's ability to recover from his little fishtail under braking.

Kubica was definitely faster but Vettel clearly wasn't just going to let him by. He should have waited for a better corner to pass instead of being greedy and trying to get him on the outside.

Vettel is an incredible wheel man at only what, 21? The kid will def be world champion in the next few years..although I don't think it'll be with RBR.

i think kubica wanted the race win, that's why he didn't wait for a better corner. he wanted to get past vettel asap.

and from vettel himself:
explained Vettel. “At the time I turned in I was ahead, but I couldn't keep up speed in the corner and Robert was on a harder tyre, so was much quicker. At the time we collided he was in front, but I had no where to go, I couldn't stop the car, or turn to the right and my tyres were gone."
“Maybe I should have said let him go and bring third back home, but that's life. I tried to defend and, up to the mid-corner, I had reason, but then I had no grip to avoid a collision. I'm sorry to the team and also to Robert, as it didn't just mean the end of my race, but also his.”
